The strategy of ODATIS in Frontiers of Science

Frontiers in Marine Science has just published an article presenting the challenges facing the ODATIS Ocean cluster and its strategy as the gateway to French marine data.

The open access journal Frontiers in Marine Science has just published an article "Streamlining data and service centres for easier access to data and analytical services: the strategy of ODATIS as the gateway to French marine data", co-authored by several ODATIS's members, presenting the challenges facing the ODATIS Ocean cluster and its strategy  as the gateway to French marine data.

The signs of global change are manifest; answering these questions of global change requires observing, measuring and modeling the "Earth system as a whole, from the Earth's core to the limits of the atmosphere, taking into account the interactions of each of its components and exploring all aspects from geophysics to the biosphere". The amount of marine observation data derived from in situ and remote sensing measurements has increased significantly in past few decades. To ensure that such data with such volumes and diversity are available and usable by the scientific community, the implementation of a coherent and shared strategy is presented in this paper.

The first challenge of the ODATIS Ocean cluster is to catalog all marine data, to facilitate their collection and access (discovery, visualization, extraction). A specific task is to develop tools for processing large amounts of data and generate products. The cluster's strategy is thus presented, to implement the FAIR principles and certification (CoreTrustSeal) in each of its DSC and promote adherence within the scientific community. A second challenge is to meet the needs of the end user, from the proximity of the producer to the cross-analysis of data from all Earth compartments, integrating the topics of the 4 data poles (AERIS, FORM@TER, THEIA and ODATIS). This implies defining and organizing a highly mutualized distributed infrastructure, based on a network of DSC, which will be developed within the framework of IR Data Terra.
